The Bear's Jump iron path - Baia de Fier - videoPlay
The Bear's Jump (in Romanian, Saritoarea Ursului) is a fantasy-named via ferrata that opened in May 2018 near Baia de Fier, alongside the Middle Spiral (in Romanian, Spirala Medie). Both routes begin from the G zone of the rock face that conceals the Muierilor Cave.

According to a sign placed at the base of the rock face, the contractor rated Bear's Jump with a difficulty level of C. While this assessment is generally accurate, I would like to offer a slight nuance. The via ferrata starts with an easier section rated B at the base of the rock face. After crossing a scree slope, one arrives at the junction of the two aforementioned routes.

At this point lies the most challenging part of the route, considered its crux. Climbers must ascend the vertical face of a rock block approximately 5 meters high, where a roughly 8-meter-long steel cable provides assistance. I found this section to be quite challenging, and thus would rate it as difficulty D. There are no footholds or handholds, which is likely how the route got its name.

After overcoming the crux, climbers can reach the summit through another easy section rated B, within the rock fissure. Here, the entertaining Nepalese suspension bridge offers a chance for fun, while a log trapped in the crevice serves as a resting spot. One can retreat through the forest via an unmarked path. I descended through the Great Crevice to the parking area below the entrance to the Muierilor Cave.
