The Gelmerbahn in Switzerland is the steepest open funicular in Europe. It transports tourists from an altitude of 1412 meters to over 1860 meters above sea level, as well as to the Gelmer lake located at 1849 meters.

This funicular railway has an average inclination of approximately 47 degrees, and the steepest section of the track has a gradient of 106 percent. Originally, it was used to transport construction materials to build the Gelmersee artificial lake.
