Iron path in winter - Harghita Madaras - video

Iron path in winter - Harghita Madaras - videoPlay
This is already the sixth time I've climbed the via ferrata route set up on the rocky cliffs of Seii Peak near Harghita Madaras. Although the forecast suggests that the weather should be nice, I am greeted by a sky covered in clouds.

The via ferrata has two routes. One features an icy lower section, while the other is completely dry. The middle section is fine, but at the very top, there's about knee-deep snow, although that part is already horizontal.

This is the second time I am climbing here in winter conditions. My experience is that it is mostly possible to climb here even in winter. However, rain-thaw-freeze cycles can bring unexpected challenges.

The descent path is covered in snow and has not been trampled, so I prefer to climb down the via ferrata. While this approach is not appropriate for one-way via ferratas, it is faster and safer in this case.
