Mürren-Gimmelwald Klettersteig - Switzerland - video
The Mürren-Gimmelwald Klettersteig is a relatively new via ferrata route in Switzerland, located in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. It is moderately difficult, but incredibly scenic. Unusually, you don't climb upwards here, but rather descend.
The starting point is the picturesque alpine village of Mürren, which cannot be reached by car. From here, a more than 2.2 km long iron path leads downwards to Gimmelwald, situated 300 meters below. From the parking lot at the base of the Lauterbrunnen cliff, you can take a cable car up to Mürren, and then back from Gimmelwald.
At the beginning of the via ferrata, there is a base jumping deck, followed by a short, but incredibly exposed section, about 30 meters long. It was breathtaking to climb here, as it was necessary to climb on the side of a 600-meter-high vertical cliff, just below the edge, directly above the cable car parking.
Another highlight was the series of iron ladders and suspension bridges. The cherry on top was the last Nepalese suspension bridge, which is only 80 meters long, but suspended 300 meters high. It was an exciting and unforgettable experience.
