Schulter Anstieg klettersteig - Hoher Dachstein, Austria - video

Schulter Anstieg klettersteig - Hoher Dachstein, Austria - videoPlay
Two iron paths lead to the top of the Hoher Dachstein. The Randkluft is shorter, but can only be reached through a glacier with cracks. It is dangerous to reach the starting point, that's probably why it was closed now.

On the other hand, the Schulter (the shoulder of the Dachstein) is so accessible, that it could almost be called a promenade. A lot of people climb on it, and they all have to come back the same way. It has officially A/B difficulty, but I saw some people struggling on certain sections.

Surprisingly, I met a lot of elderly people there. Her parents secured a 5-year-old girl with a climbing rope, and carried her up. And I saw a young man climbing the via ferrata with two crutches.

The Hoher Dachstein is 2995 m high, but to reach three thousand, I climbed the more than 5-meter high cross on the summit. It's not a pretty thing to do, but everyone does it there.

I was lucky to have sparkling sunshine, as I planned the hike for good weather. The view is indescribable. You can see the monumental Hallstätter and Gosau glaciers, as well as the nearby peaks of Niederer Dachstein, Hoher Gjaidstein, and Koppenkarstein.
