Via ferrata de la Grande Fistoire - France - video

Via ferrata de la Grande Fistoire - France - videoPlay
Because I lost the footage I made the first time (don't buy SD cards from Alibaba!), at the end of June I visited this great and exciting via ferrata again. It has a 59-meter long suspension bridge (one of the longest in the Alps), at 200 m height, and a 32-meter long, uncomfortably swinging Nepalese bridge.

At Grande Fistoire, they recommend the Petzl Trac dual pulley, which can be used both on steel cable and rope. It can also be rented on site. The dual pulley costs 4 euros, full equipment 15.50 euros. The fee for using the via ferrata is 6.50 euros per person. I didn't wanted to pay for the dual pulley, because I had my own equipment. But it was a mistake, because my pulley was not suitable here.

There are three tyrolean slides here. The first is 150 m long, the second is 135 m, and the third is 220 m long. I slid alone on the first one, my companions chose the easier route upwards, and they had already descended on the return path. Meanwhile, the visitor center at the foot of the rock was closed, and the employees went home.

I started with all my strength on the 150-meter long slide, but I was moving so slowly on it, that the pulley stopped in the middle of the cable's arc. It was an uncomfortable feeling. Although my companions knew I was still up there, they didn't know I was in trouble.

I had to help myself, and pull myself up on the arched cable. No matter how difficult it was, no matter how much my arm hurt, I couldn't let go. Because then I would slide back to the middle, and have to start over. In this situation, a clamping tool like the Skylotec Rider 3.0, or at least a prusik knot would have been worth gold.

Throughout all this time, I haven't felt any fatigue or pain, probably due to adrenaline. But when I finally managed to descend, exhaustion and pain overwhelmed me completely. I thought I wouldn't make it, but I survived. :-)
