Wild Ferenc memorial path - Suhardul Mic - videoPlay
In recent days, this news has been everywhere: the via ferrata route built on the southwest wall of Suhardul Mic (Little Suhard) has finally been completed and inaugurated. The new route has been named after Ferenc Wild, in memory of the former mountain rescuer, sports writer, and one of the founders of the mountain rescue association in Gheorgheni.

The via ferrata route is 200 meters long with an elevation gain of 173 meters. This means that aside from a few shorter horizontal sections and the 12-meter-long suspension bridge, it is practically vertical. In my opinion, the difficulty rating of the route C/D (medium/difficult) accurately reflects reality.

While I climbed the new iron path mostly in the dark for the first time, this time I managed to explore it during the day. But I still missed the sunset by a few minutes.
Waterfalls of Lapos creek - Bicaz Gorges 2.1 km away
One of the lesser-known attractions of the Bicaz Gorges is the series of waterfalls along Lapos Creek. This creek flows between Cupas Stone and Bardos Stone before eventually merging with Bicaz Creek, forming spectacular waterfalls beneath the Altar Stone.
Poienii Rock, north-eastern lookout point - Bicaz Gorges 2.67 km away
From the viewpoint at the top of the northeastern wall of Poienii Rock in the Bicaz Gorges, we can look down 300 meters to the mouth of the Bicajel stream. The Bridge of the Hungarians is hidden among pine trees. The road winds through Hell's Mouth, between Bardos Mountain and Surducul Stone.

Pricske peak - Giurgeu Mountains 13.81 km away
If we want to reach Pricske (Prisca) peak, which rises above Gheorgheni and Lazarea, we start from the valley of the Güdüc (Ghidut) stream. Our path leads us past the ruins of a building known as the White House.

Muierii Cave Baia de Fier 238.18 km away
We visited the Baia de Fier area, and climbed on the rock that also conceals the Women's Cave (Pestera Muierilor). Between two via ferrata routes, we also participated in one of the guided cave tours, which depart every hour.
Poenari citadel Arges valley 183.87 km away
The Poenari citadel is located on the southern slope of the Fagaras Mountains, on the western side of the Transfagaras road, in the Arges Valley, about 4 km from the Vidraru Lake dam. Along a steep incline, a concrete staircase leads up to the castle, which is built atop a mountain. It is said that one must climb 1,480 steps, though we didn't count. :-)
Via ferrata Rio Sallagoni Italia 1141.73 km away
The surrounding iron climbing routes are located on rock walls exposed to a scorching sun. But the Rio Sallagoni via ferrata goes upwards in a pleasantly cool gorge, above the creek and waterfalls, and eventually reaches the Drena Castle.
Hodoaba Valley iron path Suncuius 247.15 km away
The Hodoaba Valley iron path is Romania's shortest and easiest (official) via ferrata route. It is located near Suncuius, in the Padurea Craiului Mountains, on the left bank of the Crisul Repede River.
Schulter Anstieg klettersteig Hoher Dachstein, Austria 923.63 km away
Two iron paths lead to the top of the Hoher Dachstein. The Randkluft is shorter, but can only be reached through a glacier with cracks. It is dangerous to reach the starting point, that's probably why it was closed now.
L'Escale á Peille iron path Alpes-Maritimes, France 1472.59 km away
One of the challenging via ferratas in the Maritime Alps is the L'Escale a Peille. One of its elements is a steel cobweb, where you can feel like you're hanging in the air.
Sheepdogs Govora sheepfold Retezat mountains 266.76 km away
On the second day of my weekend Retezat hike, I visited a sheepfold on the Lancita Ridge. To my great disappointment, they didn't make cheese or curd here. The owners sell the more special types of sheep and rams in the autumn.
Hias Klettersteig Silberkarklamm, Ramsau am Dachstein 915.66 km away
The Hias Klettersteig in the Silberkarklamm gorge is the first of the three via ferrata routes, and perhaps the easiest to complete. Two cable bridges and a few trickier sections make it interesting, but it is truly impressive due to the view of the narrow gorge.
Crivadia Gorges 248.52 km away
The Crivadia Gorge is located next to the village of Crivadia, which belongs to Banita. Access is difficult, and the hike is made through the streambed, with water up to the waist at its narrowest point.
Iron path in winter Harghita Madaras 41.89 km away
This is already the sixth time I've climbed the via ferrata route set up on the rocky cliffs of Seii Peak near Harghita Madaras. Although the forecast suggests that the weather should be nice, I am greeted by a sky covered in clouds.
Trift valley, bridge, lake and glacier Gadmen, Switzerland 1325.78 km away
During the hike in Trift Valley, I experienced cloudy and gloomy weather with intermittent rain. Here is the 170 m long Trift Bridge, the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the Swiss Alps, in a breathtaking environment, 100 meters above the Trift Glacier Lake.

The Bear's Jump iron path Baia de Fier 238.19 km away
The Bear's Jump (in Romanian, Saritoarea Ursului) is a fantasy-named via ferrata that opened in May 2018 near Baia de Fier, alongside the Middle Spiral (in Romanian, Spirala Medie). Both routes begin from the G zone of the rock face that conceals the Muierilor Cave.
Preacher's Rock Bodoc Mountains 87.37 km away
In the Bodoc Mountains, west-southwest from the Henter peak, we find a rock formation shaped like a mushroom by erosion, called Preacher's Rock. This 2-meter high rock probably got its name from the pagan Hungarian priests, who preached here in the past.
