The Fagarasi Mountains can be easily approached from the north, mainly by using the Transfagarasan Road. This road is only accessible during the summer months (throughout its entire length), but from the Balea Waterfall station (Statia Balea Cascada) you can also reach the Balea Lake by cable car.

Womens Spiral, Cave Ridge, and The Great Crack iron paths Baia de Fier
Perhaps the most interesting via ferrata among the routes in the Baia de Fier area is the Womens Spiral. After completing it, I can say that it is the second most thrilling via ferrata in Romania, following the Big Via Ferrata at Rasnov.

Poenari citadel Arges valley
The Poenari citadel is located on the southern slope of the Fagaras Mountains, on the western side of the Transfagaras road, in the Arges Valley, about 4 km from the Vidraru Lake dam. Along a steep incline, a concrete staircase leads up to the castle, which is built atop a mountain.

While the first time I climbed this via ferrata in the morning, now I climbed it in the light of the setting sun. The red-dressed rocks created a special atmosphere, and I could admire the sunset from the top of the climbing route.

Via ferrata du Diable France
The Devil's Iron Path (Via ferrata du Diable) is a multi-part via ferrata, located above a spectacular waterfall (Cascade du Nant), in a gorge, below the Victor-Emmanuel fort. For me, this climbing route presented the greatest challenge so far.

Seven Ladder Canyon and Waterfall Piatra Mare Mountain
The Seven Ladder Gorge is the largest and most spectacular gorge in the Piatra Mare massif. The narrow canyon has a length of 160 meters, and over a drop of 58 meters includes 7 bigger and several smaller waterfalls.

Muierii Cave Baia de Fier
We visited the Baia de Fier area, and climbed on the rock that also conceals the Women's Cave (Pestera Muierilor). Between two via ferrata routes, we also participated in one of the guided cave tours, which depart every hour.

Spirala Medie iron path Baia de Fier
In May 2018, two new via ferrata routes were inaugurated in Baia de Fier. Both start from section G of the rock face hiding the Muierilor Cave, and their initial stages are shared.
