The Rak lake is located 2 km north of the village Porumbenii Mari, at 600 m altitude. The circumference of the lake is 800 m, the length 250 m, width 150 m, maximum depth 7 m, and the surface is 28000 m2 (10 ha together with the joined area). The 10 ha area is protected by the law since 2000.
It is a typical lake formed behind a land-blockage in the Ice age. The lake-forming landslides were the result of the specific rock composition of the area (sedimentary rocks, clayey Mars and sandstones dating from the Neogen age). The lake is the habitat of a rare carnivore plant, the Utricularia vulgaris.
